The course ARTS ECONOMICS (12 credits) aims to introduce and acquaint students with fundamental concepts, issues, tools and recent trends of economics applied to the arts, culture and creative industries, to help students to develop and adapt an economic reasoning to their related research and professional interests and activities.
The course ARTS ECONOMICS is composed of two modules, ARTS ECONOMICS I (6 credits) and ARTS ECONOMICS II (6 credits), that ideally complement each other, where ARTS ECONOMICS I is propaedeutic to ARTS ECONOMICS II.
In particular, the second module ARTS ECONOMICS II will deepen topics and tools dealt with in ARTS ECONOMICS I in the light of recent international scientific research, current field practice and real case studies.
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand, apply and deal with fundamental concepts, issues and recent trends of economics applied to the arts, culture and creative industries.
- Develop and adapt an economic reasoning and practice to their applied research and professional interests and activities in the arts and cultural sector in both for-profit and nonprofit settings.
A knowledge of basic economic concepts is preferrable.
Arts Economics II constitutes the second part of the 12 CFU Arts Economics course. After the overall analysis of different aspects undertaken in the first period of the semester, this second part will be seminar-based, investigating specific aspects of the economic dynamics occurring in the cultural sector, with particular reference to “Economic and Cultural Sustainability”.
The topic will be developed through the analysis of how organizational-level economic AND cultural sustainability can be achieved in respect to specific industry-level circumstances, restrictions and opportunities.
Texts, lectures slides, assigned papers and other course material will be distributed and referred to in the course's Moodle page.
Attending students:
- group assignment with oral presentation (25% of final grade)
- individual written exam (75% of final grade)

Non attending students:
- individual assignment (25% of final grade)
- individual written exam (75% of final grade)
