The course FUNDING FOR ARTS AND CULTURE aims to introduce and acquaint students with fundamental concepts, issues, tools and processes of fundraising and business development for the cultural and creative sector, to help students to implement their managerial skils with a deeper understanding of the processes concerning funding for arts organizations.
The course FUNDING FOR ARTS AND CULTURE is composed of a single module (6 CFU).
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand, apply and deal with fundamental concepts, issues and recent trends of funding and fundraising applied to the arts, culture and creative industries.
- Develop and apply their theoretical concepts and tools to real practical circumstances, strategizing them into operative solutions for the not-for-profit arts and cultural sector.
To successfully attend the course, a basic knowledge of management and organizations of arts and cultural activities is preferable.
Lectures will revolve around these topics:

- Sustainability and viability in cultural organizations
- Funding strategies: fundraising, diversification and business development
- Fundraising tools: sponsorships, partnerships, memberships (individuali e corporate), public funds, tenders
- Funding and audience engagement for cultural sustainability
Texts, lectures slides, assigned papers and other course material will be distributed and referred to in the course's Moodle page.
Attending students:
- group assignment with oral presentation (30% of final grade)
- individual written exam (70% of final grade)

Non attending students:
- individual assignment (30% of final grade)
- individual written exam (70% of final grade)
