The course is part of the Ph.D. program in Management. The aim of the course is to provide students with a deep understanding of any aspect of their future job as researcher, from the completion of their Ph.D., to the writing of a paper, to the job market for Academics, to the academic profession per se. In doing this, the course is the necessary companion of the main courses offered within the Ph.D., as it allows students to strategically plan their efforts during the Ph.D. and in their future career as researchers.
The course is aimed at providing students with the knowledge needed to navigate their Ph.D., to write their papers, to present them, and to effectively approach the job market. By the end of the course students will be able to strategize about all the previous points, and particularly to master their presence on the job market.
No specific pre-requisite is necessary for this course
The course offers a series of seminars meant to introduce students to the ‘nuts and bolts’ of passing through a Ph.D. program, of writing a paper, and finally of entering the job market. Integral part of the course are sessions in which students are engaged in mock interviews, in job-market presentation training, and in one-to-one counseling about their career. The course also encompasses the monitoring of all the enrolled Ph.D. students’ situations, and -on this basis- the provision of specific advices and warnings to the students themselves, and to the Ph.D. Director, if needed.
For each session, the reference material will be indicated, together with a series of scientific articles and other readings
The final acquisition of competences by the students will be tested with reference to their comprehension of the main elements composing the job market. The final evaluation will be obtained by considering the student’s interaction in class discussions. Due to Covid emergency, the exam procedure may be subject to modifications.
