The course is part of the disciplines of Ancient and Medieval History, curriculum of Archaeology, Master's Degree Programme in Ancient Civilization. Literature, History and Archaeology.
Aims of the course: ensuring the adeguate skills in the sectors of the archaeological curriculum, focusing the necessary historical-artistic skills for the correct approach to the pharaonic culture and materials. The study will comprise the analysis of ancient materials and sources, which let the student acquire the skills for a correct knowledge of the historical and archaeological evidence of the pharaonic Egypt, connected with the subject of the course.
Achieving of these goals will contribute to the maturity of those scienfic skills in the frame of the historical-archaeological context.
At the end of the course, thanks to the individual commitment in the topics of the lessons, the student of Egittologia Sp. will acquire a range of skills on specific subjects of the pharaonic culture, investigated even thanks to the reading of Egyptian sources. These skills are part of a wider education in the archaeologist, as stated in the description of the Master's Degree.
More in detail, the teaching contributes to the archaeological skills not only with the specific information concerning the subject of the course, but also with the acquisition of some organizing capacities in the activities during the lessons (partecipation during the lessons with talks on the signalized topics; short dissertation). The knowledge in the discipline may be integrated with the course of Egitto Tardo ed Ellenistico-Romano.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF PHARAONIC EGYPT: CULTURE AND HISTORY (NECESSARY); LANGUAGE (SUGGESTED).
Reading of Egyptian texts is part of the individual short dissertation, and may be replaced by a specific program (see Assessment methods).
THE MEANINGFUL IMAGE.
The iconic language and the system of the communication: writing and representation.

Aims
- Ability to analyze issues related to the icon (in general).
- Critical approach to the subjects exposed during the lessons.
- Adeguate skill in the approach to the archaeological materials.
- Ability of analysis on the sources of the period, with the development of adeguate philological skills.
- Development of ability in team work.

During the course, the student will take part in the discussions on the subjects of the lessons, and in the reading, translation and analysis of the texts in Egyptian language.
The exam comprises: presentation of the short dissertation, discussion of the subjects and the texts exposed during the lessons.
Reading of Egyptian texts can be replaced by a second, specific dissertation.
Full lessons via Zoom (see Moodle of the course) on specific case-studies, relating to the subjects of the course. Presentation and discussion of materials and subjects, identified as subjects of the personal short dissertations.

ATTENDANCE IS HIGHLY REQUESTED.
The reading of Egyptian documents may be replaced with individual program (see Assessment Methods).
Graduation thesis: attendance and exams of Egitto Ellenistico Romano and Egittologia Sp. with an average grade not lesser than 27/30.
