The course of Legal Institutions is an activity of the Global Asian Studies Minor (International College) that aims to provide a basic knowledge of principles of law, especially those concerning comparative, international law and Asian legal systems in a multidisciplinary perspective.
1. Knowledge and understanding
1.1. Basic knowledge of legal terminology and of some law basic notions.
1.2. Knowledge of the Asian values debate and the general legal framework of some East Asian Countries.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
2.1. Ability to use legal terminology and to understand the basic notions of East Asian law.
2.2. Ability to recognize the most relevant aspects of the different legal systems of the countries of East Asia.
3. Ability to analyse and learn:
3.1. Ability to re-elaborate contents and develop autonomous research project.
3.2. Ability to analyse a topic with a critical approach.
4. Communication skills
4.1. Ability to effectively give a short talks about a topic through a presentation.
Knowledge of English language
The course will be concentrated on introducing fundamentals aspects of comparative law and international law with a focus on Asian legal systems. It will be virtually divided into three parts: 1) introduction to law (international and comparative law); 2) Asian legal systems; 3) single topic lectures (rule of law, labor law, family law).

The minor program will be structured and developed in order to facilitate an active participation of the class through lectures, seminars and small group work, experts invited to give a talk.
