This second module of "Governance of Cultural Organizations" course contributes to the general objectives of the degree course in economics and management of cultural activities by exploring the idea of government / governance, proposed as a key to reading the internal and external dynamics of the functioning of cultural organizations. On the internal functioning side, aspects related to the accountability of cultural organizations will be explored, dealing with the issues of measuring results and evaluating performance. Theories and methods of identifying the results of cultural production with their consequences on organizational and managerial aspects will be illustrated and exemplified.
On the external functioning side, the central concept will be that of impact, explored in relation to the constant request for the involvement of cultural assets and activities in various public policies. In this way, the connections between culture and local development, the role of creativity in the urban economy, cultural districts and the drive for greater participation of citizens in the management of cultural heritage will be taken into consideration.
By following the lessons and passing the intermediate tests and the final exam, students should be able to:

Students will take a written test with open questions and, depending on the outcome, a possible oral test. The mark of the written test can be supplemented, in progress and only for attending students, by additional grades that can be acquired with individual or group work proposed by the teachers. The actual methods of carrying out these additional tests will be specified in the first weeks of the lesson and reported on the Moodle platform.
The course is offered in seminar form: the teacher presents the key concepts in the first half of each lesson and opens the discussion in the second half to comments and questions from students. Those who attend the lessons undertake to actively participate in the comparison and debate. Indications, references and supplementary materials are made available to students through the Moodle platform to stimulate discussion and request for further information. The course is supported by a senior tutor, a professional in the field of cultural productions, who will follow the students especially in the development of individual and group supplementary work.

Class attendance is not recommended for unmotivated and not very curious students who intend to come to the classroom only to listen to the teacher speaking, record him, take notes and ask no questions. For those who intend to maintain this attitude towards learning, the study of the text materials that are clearly specified in the syllabus is sufficient. On the other hand, students who are truly passionate about the connections between managerial disciplines and the cultural and artistic and willing to discuss them with the teacher during the lessons are most welcomed. When the class is delivered online it is mandatory to keep the camera on.
