The course is characterizing of several Master's Degrees in Humanities. The objective of the course is to provide advanced knowledge in bibliographic methodologies and history of the book
The course has two main objectives:
1. To approach the study of the history of the book, intended as a medium of communication, cultural object and repository of knowledge.
2. To illustrate in their historical evolution the bibliographical and catalographic tools that record the production of printed books: from Renaissance catalogues to the current on-line databases. The first part of the course will be devoted to training in the complex use of these research tools.

No specific prerequisites are required.
History of the printed book; Bibliography; bibliographical tools (printed catalogues and databases on-line). History of bibliographical tools as a means of ordering human knowledge.
The specific topic that will be deepened during the classes concerns Venice, the main European publishing centre in the Renaissance..
The written exam is a short essay (3000/3500 words) on a topic among those treated in class and in its discussion.
The course is seminar-based and requires the active participation of students.
