English Language and Translation is a specific course, or "insegnamento caratterizzante" in the Master's Degree Program in Interpreting and Translation for Publishing and for Special Purposes and will enable students to acquire an excellent communicative competence of the English language by means of translation studies methodologies. The course consists is a semestral module which will be completed by applied, practical language classes called "esercitazioni", which will be part of the final exam and offer students the opportunity of working on small group projects. The module will explore text types in a comparative perspective English/Italian and will enable students to translate and especially revise non-specialized texts from and into English.
At the end of the course students will be enabled to understand and produce translations and text revisions in Italian and in English at a a C1+/C2 of the CEFR; they will be able to recognize and illustrate their translation and revision strategies in English; they will be able to use the appropriate linguistic and translation studies terminology and will be able to explain the translation strategies to be applied to specific texts types. They will also be able to use the material provided by their teacher in an autonomous way and will be able to self-assess the skills and competences acquired during the course.
Pre-requisites of this course are a level C1 of the QCER and an excellent competence of their native language, usually Italian. A level of autonomy in the study method already acquired and a substantial cultural background will favour a more rapid acquisition of the skills taught in the course.
1. Text types in English and in Italian.
2. Stylistic and textual aspects to be analyzed in a contrastive approach.
3. Text revision in English.
The "esercitazioni" will focus on the translation and text revision aspects of texts in the English language at the level C1 QCER.
Texts, articles and written material will be provided on the moodle course linked with the lessons (password will be provided).

Students will be assessed by means of a written exam, which will consiste in an individual work on translation or an activity of text revision of an English translated text.
Lessons will be in English and in Italian with both lectures and interactive activities.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Human capital, health, education" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
