The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic tools of linguistic analysis.
The student knows the basic linguistic terminology and understands the texts that use it.
The student knows the main properties characterizing the modules of grammar and understands how they interact.
The student is able to analyze simple phonological, morphological and syntactic structures of Italian and other languages observed during the course.
The student is able to use the linguistic terminology correctly, at all stages of application of the acquired knowledge.
The student will be able to formulate simple hypotheses, to evaluate two competing hypotheses, and to argument their judgement with empirical evidence.
The student is able to transfer their reflection capacity on a number of linguistic phenomena with appropriate terminology.
The student is able to argument critically and respectfully with the peers and with the tutor.
The student is able to take notes.
The student is able to consult the references in the syllabus and make simple bibliographical researches.
Cultural knowledges obtained from a course of high-school degree studies.
For foreign students a good knowledge of Italian is required.
The course is an introduction to linguistics: students will be presented with the basic concepts concerning semiotics, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics.

The method that will be used to assess the knowledge and skills acquired is an oral exam..
The oral test verifies: knowledge and understanding of the basic tools of linguistic analysis, using the linguistic terminology correctly; capacity of personal reflection on linguistic phenomena.
Face-to-face lessons. An active student partecipation would be appreciated.
