This workshop focuses on the ways the arts, in their media and formal specificities, can contribute to the formation of non-exclusive/exclusionary communities and relations, performing unexpected meanings and practices through which social exclusion of minoritarian, marginalized and invisibilized subjects (for their age, ethnic belonging or ability, for example) is put into question.
ATTENDANCE is MANDATORY.
- To know the change in the arts paradigm drawing on relationality, performativity, and participation-co/creation;
- To deepen the notion of “inclusive arts” confronting sociological and aesthetics approaches, their convergences and differences;
- To distinguish and problematize among the many possible forms and levels of participation in the art field;
- To learn the steps an inclusive art project encompasses, by identifying its aims, participants and publics, spaces and media, as well as the short and long term social returns.
Students must register on the Moodle page of this workhsop in order to organize the class activities and to access to the class materials.
The issue of participation in the arts comes to the fore when the actors, dynamics and processes of the art worlds are redefined according to the contemporary dismantling of traditional hierarchies of professions, genres and forms of production-consumption, together with an increased accessibility of contexts and means that new media make possible.
After taking such changes into consideration, this workshop will focus on the ways in which artistic experiences, drawing on physical, affective, symbolic and cognitive engagement of their participants, can work as a laboratory where to experiment alternatives to reimagine community practices in a non discriminatory way.

A detailed list of the topics, texts and case studies discussed in class will be available in the schedule uploaded to Moodle before class begins.

for additional mandatory and optional materials see Moodle.
In this workshop, attendance and participation in class are mandatory, and they will also be evaluated. No late arrivals or early leaves will be tolerated if they happen on a regular basis. Students, who will be asked to register on Moodle, will follow the given schedule and will read the assignments before each class, and also present them in turn, in order to be able to actively take part in class discussions. Students are required to deliver a written group project for final evaluation (groups will be organized once class starts). Given the laboratory aspect of this class, active participation in class, which is mandatory, is itself part of the final evaluation (max. number of missed classes: 3/15).
Lectures, groups works and exercises, class activities on assigned documents, student seminars.
