MUSEOLOGY

The course is part of the related and supplementary courses of the master's degree course in “EGART”. Awareness of historical practice and theories on Museums and their restoration contribute to the improvement of the transversal skills of the learners in the historical-artistic and curatorial fields.
The 12-credit Museology exam consists of two parts each of 6 credits. The second part of this course is entrusted to Professor Matteo Bertelè who will hold the course in the fourth period. The student matures the 12 credits with the passing of two partial exams, each relating to a part of the course. The final grade comes from the average of the two grades obtained by passing the two partial tests. The exams of both parties must be passed in the same academic year under penalty of forfeiture of the 6 credits accrued.

-Awareness of the main theoretical issues concerning the discipline;
-improvement of a critical approach to primary and secondary sources;
-improvement of a critical approach to Museums and their display;
-a critical approach to the contemporary world;
-ability to do research and to communicate results.

A basic knowledge in History of Western Art would be desiderable.

1) The history of exhibitions according to the typological criterion in relation to European history and society.

2) A laboratory section,as a ppt presentation on a subject about the exhibition display (ONLY ATTENDING STUDENTS)

Attending students

For attending students, the final grade comes from the sum of three components, which are:
1. active participation in lessons;
2. the evaluation of a seminar presentation in the classroom;
3. the evaluation of the oral exam.

1. Active participation in the lessons is:
• the demonstration of an intellectual curiosity with regard to the discipline and the topics covered;
• participation in the debate requested by the teacher.

2. The evaluation of the seminar presentation in the classroom (as an individual or in working groups based on the number of students enrolled in the course), will take into account:
• Originality of the proposed theme and its treatment;
• Use of bibliographical, documentary and digital resources sources;
• Effectiveness of the exhibition through the use of presentation tools.

3. The final oral exam is aimed at verifying:
• The acquisition of disciplinary content;
• Mastery of a specific lexicon;
• The ability to argue and critically rework content;
• The maturation of an overall vision of the discipline.

ORAL EXAM: the candidate is required to answer three questions on three topics of the program, each answer is assigned a score from 0 to 10, the final grade is the sum of the three scores. Honors are a plus at the discretion of the teacher. Participation in group work (only for those attending) gives the right to an increase in the final grade of 20%

Non-attending students

Non-attending students are evaluated ONLY on the basis of the final oral exam. They do NOT have to give a seminar presentation.
