INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR THE ARTS

The course is intended to introduce the main IT technologies that can be used in the management of cultural heritage. In particular, the course will introduce the basic concepts of computers (binary representation of data, memory, architecture, algorithms), how data is represented in information systems (digital imaging, audio, video) and how can be managed in complex environments (in particular with relational databases). Moreover, the basics concepts of computer networks and information retrieval are introduced, together with interface evaluation for data presentation.

The student will be able to deal with the main technologies used in the management of cultural heritage. In particular, the student will be introduced to the main topics about
- data representation in information systems
- computer architecture
- computational thinking
- digital imaging, audio, video
- databases in information systems
- computer networks, web technologies
- information retrieval and search engines

Slides and materials provided by the teacher

The exam will consist of a written test with open questions and multiple choice questions. The written exam is focused towards assessing the topics presented during the course.
An elective seminar (to be done at the end of the course) can be proposed by the students, presenting an information system for the arts and its technological peculiarities.
