Industry 4.0 is an economic organizational model that provides for the digitization of the production system. It includes the use of enabling technologies that allow the company to increase its economic performance while reducing production times and costs. It is a complex economic model which includes, among many others, elements linked to the development of new knowledge and skills and to the identification of the most appropriate technology based on the type of company, reference market and corporate objectives.
Smart factory, Internet of things, Blockchain, applied sensors, management and control software are just some of the typical elements of Industry 4.0: we are facing the fourth industrial revolution which, as such, will radically impact our lives and the world as we know it. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan presented by the Italian government and approved by Europe allocates many resources to the digitization and innovation of our production system. This demonstrates the direction that Italy, in line with European guidelines, is committed to taking to implement a real digital transition of the Italian private and public system. This is obviously a high end frontier towards which all companies will have to aim if they want to maintain their competitiveness on the national and international market. The course, therefore, aims to offer a general overview of the Industry 4.0 economic model, illustrating its implications, theoretical and practical, on businesses and human resources. The course has an interdisciplinary nature: it does not require specific economic skills because it aims at creating a common language on a topic that is playing a pivotal role in our economy.

Lessons will be alternated by professionals, consultants, business executives, policy makers: the lessons will be interactive with the possibility of seeing many case studies. The student will be able to interact with all the teachers and check, if the conditions are right, the possibility of in-depth studies and collaborations.
The student, thanks to the knowledge learned during the course, will be able to have a complete knowledge of the economic phenomenon linked to Industry 4.0, to develop a critical thinking about the main enabling technologies and, finally, to apply the fundamental principles of innovation. and digitalization in the reference sector.

Industry 4.0 must be a topic not only for some professionals: it is a complex phenomenon that requires a multiplicity of knowledge and skills. The student will be put in the condition not only to understand the phenomenon and its practical implications, but will have the tools for a reading of innovation by enhancing their own background.
No prerequisite required: the student is asked to be interested in the subject and willing to actively follow the lessons
