The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge on a theme that will allow us to tackle more aspects of medieval art (architecture, sculpture and pictorial decoration). The course is one of the characteristics of the "Medieval and Byzantine" path and can be combined with ICONOGRAPHY AND MEDIEVAL ICONOLOGY SP (FM 308) or HISTORY OF BYZANTINE ART SP (FM0210).
The same course is chosen among the Affinities and Integratives of the "Medieval and Byzantine" and "Modern" paths.
To know the medieval works and contexts of the Veneto area, inserting them within a wider - even historical - perspective. To know the main monument of the Veneto. Knowing how to place and analyze architecture and decoration.
Acquire autonomy in directing a research on a topic / object pertinent to the topic of the course (agreed and guided by the teacher).
To acquire communication skills in presenting one's own research in a field of seminar.
Acquire skills in research for the purpose of writing a scientific text.
Having held the examination of History of Medieval Art at the Bachelor's Degree.
THE 14TH CENTURY IN VENICE
The course aims to illustrate during the lessons and to deepen with the seminar some important episodes of the Venetian fourteenth century: Palazzo Ducale (architecture and sculpture); the Marcian area; the begging churches; Paolo Veneziano; fourteenth-century mosaics in San Marco, the Gothic goldsmith's art.
The main general orientation bibliography will be provided at the beginning of the course and partly made available on the moodle platform; further bibliographical indications will be provided to the students after the choice of the subject of individual study.
The materials (ppt) projected during the lessons will also be available on the moodle platform.
Students are invited to exhibit some texts (essays / articles / book chapters) during the lessons and an individual in-depth topic in the final seminar , that will be the subject of the written report to be presented 1 week before the oral exam. The report will be discussed during the oral examination.
The evaluation will therefore take into account both the exposure and the written report.
The maximum evaluation will be given to works of particular originality, object of critical analysis, exhibited with properties, presented in written form edited, with a mature argumentative structure.
A good evaluation will take into account the work carried out, the exposure and the final draft, recognizing the acquired elements.
The course will be divided into two blocks. In the first there will be five lectures of the teacher, providing from time to time in the MOODLE platform useful materials (literature and powerpoint). In the middle of the course a list will be proposed of possible topics of individual study that will have to be exhibited in the final seminar. In the second block visits and inspections will be carried out and - in conclusion - the seminar during which the students will present the reports.
