The course aims to introduce fundamental information technologies with references to cultural heritage. In particular, those related to the collection and processing of information and their management (catalogs, thesauri, databases, ontologies, etc..), the digitization of multimedia materials (representation, formats, models), the fruition of cultural heritage (mobile multimedia guides and websites for museums, exhibitions, cities of art). Furthermore, additional advanced thematics, such as artificial intelligence and computer vision applied to the world of art and cultural heritage, will also be addressed.
The student will understand and use the leading information technologies in relation to cultural heritage.
In particular, they will know
- the main techniques and problematics of data representation and modeling
- the main techniques and issues related to data management and organization
There are no prerequisites for taking the course.
Introduction to computer systems and database management systems.
Database design.
Relational database management systems and SQL language.
Information retrieval systems.
Representation and management of multimedia data.
New technologies (artificial intelligence, computer vision).
Materials provided by the teacher
The exam consists of a (non-mandatory) presentation and a written exam on the Moodle platform.
The presentation will be on an actual project showing a strong blend of art and technology. The topic of the presentation will be agreed upon with the professor and shown to the entire class.
The written exam is intended to verify the learning of the course topics.
