This course first represents a stage of consolidation and improvement of the linguistic skills acquired during the undergraduate course. The aim of the course is therefore to introduce students to different kind of contemporary Persian texts, like roman, novel, essay, poetry, etc. studing the specific lexicon, structure of sentence and idiomatic sentences.
On the other hand, seminar work on the theme of contemporary Persian literature is planned for this year. Students will be suggested literary texts in prose and poetry, showing the development of trend lines in literature from the early 1900s to the present. Based on a number of textbooks devoted to contemporary prose and poetry, the student will choose an author whose work he or she will study in depth, both from the point of view of innovations in form and novelty of content. The seminar includes a written paper and an oral exposition.

At the end of the course the student will acquire the theoretical and practical skills to face independently and critically the reading and translating of modern literary texts of different nature; will be familiar with the main tools necessary for the comprehension of the texts (specialized dictionaries, lexical databases, repertoires of idiomatic forms, checks on network of the use and the functions of particular linguistic expressions, etc.). The work with CEL will be focused in particular on the Media language.
Solid knowledge of Persian at an intermediate level.
In the first instance, work will be done on thematic and lexical analysis of some texts provided during the course: on a short story by Jamalzade, on a poem by Nima Yushij, and on another short story by Sadeq Chubak. If there is still time, excerpts from Sadeq Hedayat's novel 'Buf-e Kur' will be addressed. As for seminar work, discussion of individual student research is planned.
