This course is one of the core educational activities of the Master Degree Programme in Language and Management to China (LAMAC). It aims at providing students with intermediate-advanced linguistic and translation skills. The goal is to enable to apply their language skills and abilities in communicative situations and in reading texts that require knowledge of vocabulary and expressions related to the fields of economy and management. They will thus be able to apply their linguistic competence to understand and interpret Chinese modernity in its various aspects.
Achieve a level of language proficiency equivalent to level B2+ of the CEFR (Common European framework of reference for language proficiency). In particular:
1. Knowledge and understanding
• Knowing the key sentences necessary to interact in communication contexts that require knowledge of vocabulary and expressions related to the fields of economy and management.
• Having a solid knowledge of the grammatical system of modern Chinese.
• Knowing the vocabulary and expressions related to the fields of economy and management.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
• Being able to correctly use the key sentences necessary to interact in communication contexts that require knowledge of the vocabulary and expressions related to the fields of economy and management.
• Being able to understand written texts on topics related to economy and management.
• Being able to use in writing vocabulary and expressions related to the fields of economy and management.
• Being able to translate correctly into Chinese sentences including complex grammatical structures.
3. Judgment skills
• Being able to assess the level of one’s language knowledge, skills and abilities.
4. Communication skills
• Being able to communicate the specificities of linguistic and textual analysis using appropriate terminology.
5. Learning skills
• Knowing how to relate the different contexts of study and apply your knowledge and skills for personal and professional growth.
• Having a very good theoretical and practical knowledge of the Italian language: students must be able to express themselves correctly both in writing and in oral form, and master the tools of grammatical analysis and logical analysis.
• Having a Chinese language proficiency equivalent to level B1+ of the CEFR (Common European framework of reference for language proficiency).
The course develops the understanding and the ability to translate Chinese texts on economics and on management. It also provides oral skills in the fields of economy and management and strengthens the ability to translate into Chinese sentences including complex grammatical structures. The course is structured as follows:
• reading comprehension and translation into Italian of Chinese texts on topics related to economy and management: 30 hours of theory and practice;
• training for interaction in business communication contexts, with analysis of grammatical and translational issues: 60 hours of practice A (conversation);
• training in translation into Chinese of sentences including complex grammatical structures: 60 hours of practice B (translation);
• conversation tutoring (C);
• translation tutoring (D);
- supplemental translation tutoring (E).

The assessment at the end of the course is carried out through three tests:

- reading comprehension and translation of a Chinese text on a topic related to economics and company management;
- conversation on economics and company management;
- translation into Chinese of sentences including complex grammatical structures.

A facsimile of the translation test is available on the website https://moodle.unive.it/ in the section “[LM6350] LINGUA CINESE AVANZATA PER LA GESTIONE AZIENDALE 1 MOD. 1 - prof. G.F. Arcodia”. The use of dictionaries, even electronic ones, is allowed only during the test of reading comprehension and translation of a Chinese test. To pass the exam it is necessary to obtain a minimum score of 6/10 in each of the three tests: the final mark is the sum of the scores of each of the three tests.
Teaching is organized in:
a) translation classes;
b) writing and conversation practice aimed at building and consolidating the knowledge, skills and competences necessary to meet the goals of the course;
c) tutoring aimed at discussing and clarifying specific language issues that emerged during the course.
