The teaching falls within the related / supplementary training activities of the Master's degree course in Chemistry and Sustainable Technologies. The course allows the student to acquire synthetic methodologies that allow the use of recycled materials and the use of CO2 as a raw material for the synthesis of products of industrial interest. For this purpose, the student will have to study catalytic, thermal and solvent-based processes that allow both the use of CO2 as a reagent and the reuse of polymeric materials in order to have new high-value products to be reintroduced to the market in the field of industrial chemistry. sustainable. The different types of reaction will coincide with the use of different reactors and the study of the macrokinetics of a laboratory reactor will be highlighted.
The student will have the opportunity to tackle some industrial / technological issues and will be stimulated to use logical and deductive reasoning in solving the proposed problems. Finally, they will have to develop the ability to interpret and explain scientific results with the appropriate language.
1. Knowledge and understanding:
a) on the study and planning of sustainable reactions of industrial interest
b) study of some industrial processes

2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
a) knowing how to use the knowledge learned to solve application / technological problems in a logical and deductive way.
b) role of catalytic methodologies in the development of sustainable processes, reuse of waste materials.

3. Ability to judge
a) knowing how to comparatively evaluate the effectiveness of different technologies
b) develop a preliminary critical ability on the effectiveness of some processes and choices of catalysts

4. Communication skills
a) Knowing how to use an appropriate lexicon and the appropriate technical-scientific symbology to communicate the knowledge learned.
b) Knowing how to interact positively with the teacher and classmates, formulating coherent questions and arguing alternative hypotheses.

5. Learning skills
a) Knowing how to be adequately autonomous in carrying out laboratory activities and on the use of the equipment used during the course.
b) Knowing how to take notes, independently selecting the salient aspects of scientific reasoning and collecting information according to their importance and priority.
It is required the knowledge of inorganic, organic, industrial chemistry and good inclination for laboratory activity.
Catalytic hydrogenation reactions of bicarbonates, carbonate, and CO2 in an aqueous medium using heterogeneous catalysts. Recovery of the sodium formate and its use as a hydrogen transfer agent in reactions of reduction of nitrocompounds, aldehydes and ketones.
Recovery of polymeric materials: thermal depolymerization, solvolitic depolymerization, catalytic depolymerization.
Recovery of composite materials: recovery of carbon fibers, recovery of monomers and products of industrial interest.
The teacher will gives the material, where one will be able to study for the exam.
Oral test will be used for verifying learning. During the exam the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics developed during the course and of knowing how to present them in a formal way. To pass the exam, the following are required: participation in laboratory activities (frequency of at least 80% of laboratory activities).
The frontal lessons will be held in classroom (18 h), the remaining time (30 h) in the didactic laboratory of Industrial Chemistry, where the experiences will be explained directly before the beginning of the experiment and may occupy several days, depending on the argument.
