The course takes part of the core educational activities of the Master's Degree programme in Italian Philology and Literature, as a 6 ECTS course.
This course offers a solid specialised training in the study of Italian poetry, by an approach to some important texts, that will be studied by many points of view, such as exegetical, stylistical, prosodical, rhetorical, critical methods. At the end of the course, students will know the chief tools for a metrical and stylistical lecture of poetical texts, that they could apply to any other Italian poetical text.
To be admitted to this course students must possess a good knowledge of Italian Language and of the chief notions of Prosody, Rhetorics and Stylistics.
Title: "Metrics and style of Eugenio Montale's poems".
Starting from some of Montale's texts, taken from his main poetic collections, we will analyze its metric characteristics and deepen the stylistic procedures implemented by the poet, with particular reference to the linguistic, syntactical, lexical, rhetorical, and intertextual uses.

The exam will start with the reading of a text among those presented in class, of which the student will be asked for a precise explanation, with particular reference to the metric and stylistic characters presented in class. It will then continue with questions related to the course and the bibliography in the program.
The student must demonstrate that he has studied and assimilated the contents of the course and possesses personal critical skills.
The course will consist on lectures, with the help of multimedia tools.
