The course Slavic Philology 1 Mod. 1 [LM5570] is addressed to MD students in Language Sciences enrolled in the Philological-Editorial curriculum. The courses Slavic Philology 2 Mod. 1 [LM0420-1] and Post Byzantine Slavia Culture [LM3000] are borrowed from it.
Knowledge and comprehension:
In-depth knowledge of the necessary tools for a critical reading and the analysis of the oldest Slavic texts; knowledge and critical understanding of the early Slavic written language system (from its first historical attestations onward) in a diachronic perspective.

Knowledge and comprehension applied skills:
The application of the acquired notions for an in-depth study of the historical and linguistic dynamics underlying the production of Slavic medieval texts; the ability to orientate in the critical debates on the historical and cultural topics in order to develop a personal research line, consulting linguistic corpora and proper bibliographic resources.

Autonomy of judgement:
The development of an autonomous reflection on the main linguistic characteristics of the selected texts in order to frame them in the early Slavic textual tradition; the ability to find adequate and relevant bibliographic resources for an in-depth understanding of the issues at stake.

Target communicative skills:
A general ability to present the acquired notions using a proper terminology, with particular reference to the historical and cultural framework of the phenomena and a philological and linguistic text analysis.
Three-year study of one or more Slavic languages (required QCER level: B2); knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet.
The course program includes a short introduction to the main linguistic, historical and cultural aspects of the medieval Slavic world and some selected topics on the philogical, morphological and syntactic characteristics of Old Church Slavonic. Some selected passages from the Old Slavic texts will be read and commented within a philological and linguistical approach.

A 30-minuted oral interview will be conducted on the contents of the course.
Non attending students can replace a part of the course program in agreement with the professor: they can write a paper on a chosen topic (min. 20.000 characters, spaces included) about the early Slavic linguistic system or its literary and cultural tradition.

Italian
Non attending students must read an essay on the early Slavic linguistic system and/or on the literary or cultural Slavic tradition. They must also write a paper on a chosen topic (min. 20.000 print characters, spaces included). The essay and the topic are agreed upon together with the tenured professor.
