The course will focus on industrial relations in the changing world of work and business. In the context of European policies promoting digital and ecological transition, exacerbated by external factors such as the pandemic crisis, collective relations are becoming increasingly important. The course will provide students aimed at a dynamic labour market with the necessary tools to understand the functions of collective relations within the company as well as their relationship with the socio-economic changes underway. In this sense, an analysis in the "traditional" sense of industrial relations and the relevant legal institutions as interpreted by case law and implemented by collective bargaining will be complemented by an analysis of "innovative" topics such as the representation and collective protection of workers on and through digital platforms, and the new models of industrial relations in the so-called "Industry 4.0". The course will be characterised by a pragmatic and case-based approach through operational meetings with operators from the trade union world or HR management.

Attendance and active participation in the training activities offered by the course and individual study will enable students to:
1. acquire the fundamental institutes of industrial relations law
2. acquire the necessary tools to understand the complex world of industrial relations, namely an integral part of corporate life.
3. know how to orientate themselves in today's complex labour market, both as a worker and as a company manager.
4. as an employee, to be able to assess one's own set of rights and obligations; as an employer, to be able to assess the opportunities offered by the legal system in the management of the labour factor and also be aware of the limits imposed by the same system.
The course assumes knowledge of private law.

Learning will be verified by an oral examination.
During the oral examination, the student must demonstrate that he/she is familiar with the topics covered during the course and that he/she is able to explain them using appropriate language.
If attending, the student may also demonstrate the knowledge acquired during the in-depth group work organised during the course; if not attending, the student may also demonstrate the knowledge acquired through the individual study of a topic chosen by the student.
The assessment of this knowledge (group work and in-depth individual study) accounts for 30% of the overall assessment, but since the in-depth study is not compulsory, in its absence the assessment will be 100% on the basis of knowledge of the topics covered during the course and correct presentation.

Teaching will be organised in: a) lectures accompanied by teaching material available on the university e-learning platform moodle.unive.it. (slides, national and company collective bargaining agreements, scientific articles published in the major journals in the sector); b) meetings with external speakers, experts or operators; c) in-depth thematic studies that may be analysed, discussed and exhibited by small groups in the classroom (for those attending); d) any individual thematic studies on topics chosen by the student, which may be exhibited during the oral examination (for those not attending).
