The course proposes a general view of the conservation of Cultural Heritage, with particular reference to the architectural heritage, considering the material aspects, the interactions with the indoor and outdoor environment and the use of the heritage (fruition). The survey methodologies for assessing the state of conservation of cultural heritage (CH) are presented, and materials and methods for conservation are analysed in relation to the most current approaches, including aspects of compatibility and sustainability. Practical exercises (case studies) will be proposed, with particular reference to issues related to coastal cities.
The course will provide a theoretical and practical basis on methodological aspects and good practices in the conservation of cultural heritage, with a special focus on architectural heritage. The student will learn to critically evaluate current methods of intervention, also considering aspects such as sustainability of the intervention and compatibility with the building and the environment. The course will provide specific tools to develop interdisciplinary research on the conservation of Cultural Heritage and to propose specific projects for the conservation of heritage in different environmental conditions.

The course includes lectures and seminars on topics related to cultural heritage conservation, given by international experts and coordinated by the lecturer.
