The course consists of two modules: one relating to a metalinguistic reflection on Italian and the other dedicated to language exercises. In this syllabus the module relating to metalinguistic reflection is described. The objective of this module is to learn the basic notions of Italian linguistics and develop a metalinguistic and metatextual competence. Both external and internal linguistic factors will be considered. In particular, the following areas will be considered: semiotic and the cultural aspects of Italian; sociolinguistic and pragmatic characteristics; spelling and phonology; morphosyntax; lexicon; textuality.
At the end of the course, students will be able to contextualize the main aspects of Italian linguistics: the spread and history of Italian and the main levels of linguistic analysis, from pragmatics to phonetics. Knowledge relating to external linguistics will increase the students motivation towards the study of Italian; knowledge of internal linguistic factors will facilitate the development of students' linguistic and metalinguistic competence.
No previous knowledge is required.
- structure of conversations, with attention given to the most characteristic dialogic dynamics;
- notion of register, with examples of the various types of symmetrical and asymmetrical interaction in relation to Italian cultural specificities;
- grammatical foundations referring to the linguistic contents of the corresponding level, with particular attention to subordination, relativization, verbal modes, the comparison between flexion, derivation and alteration;
- foundations of the linguistics of the text, i.e. the thematic relationships and logical relationships of the text, and of the linguistics of texts, i.e. the text types and the organization of the corresponding mechanisms of coherence and cohesion, in particular: narration, presentation and argumentation.
Materials will be uploaded on Moodle.
The exam for the metalinguistic module will represent 30% of the final grade.
The exam consists of a written test with multiple choice and open questions.
The lessons are characterized by an interactive and participatory exercises. Concerning the
Italian reflection module, part of the lesson will be a lecture,
during which pertinent explanations relating to the various topics will be provided.
Didactic tools will be used as needed during the lessons, written and oral texts, videos and songs where appropriate. The students
will be asked to carry out exercises and tasks assigned by the teacher.
