The course is part of the semester courses offered by the School for International Education (SiE) at Ca' Foscari University.
It aims at providing the theoretical background and the regulatory framework of New Space in order to address emerging practical issues and challenges related to businesses operating in said domain.
1: Learn the main theoretical and regulatory features of New Space Economy businesses activities.
2. Learn to critically analyse risks and opportunities of the New Space Economy.
3: Gain an appreciation of emerging challenges which have been arising in the New Space domain.
4: Develop interpersonal communication (oral and written) skills necessary for operating in the field of transnational business.
Basic knowledge of International Law is recommended but not compulsory to take this course. Basic knowledge of Private and Public Law is also helpful.
1) Introduction:
1.1) Definition of New Space and outer space
1.2) Historical background and recent developments: from space to New Space industry
2) The Law applicable to New Space businesses activities
3) Focus on some emerging New Space challenges:
3.1) Privacy protection
3.2) Cybersecurity
3.3) Environmental protection

Attendant students:
The exam will consist in a paper presentation (and Q&A).

Non-attendant students:
The exam will consist in three questions. Those students who have passed the written test may ask to sit for an oral exam (the result of the oral exam shall be averaged with the grade already obtained in the written exam).
Students may consult, during the exam, official legal texts (for instance, international treaties), only in paper/print out format and only if such a text is free of comments or notes.
Lectures and class discussions. Some videos may be used to enhance understanding and raise discussion.
