The cognitive sciences, born in the last century, constitute the meeting point of different disciplines all interested in a central theme: the study of the mind. The course of fundamentals of cognitive sciences and psychology of learning intends to give an overview of the interdisciplinary contributions, which characterize the cognitive sciences, in the field of cognitive processes, of the mind and in particular in learning. Students will learn how, from the formulation of a philosophical question about the mind, research can be developed in different fields. The data collected in each of these areas makes it possible to develop a contribution to the final and as comprehensive as possible knowledge on the subject. They will also learn how philosophy cannot be completely detached from the scientific data provided by disciplines such as psychology, linguistics, computer science, anthropology and neuroscience. The interdisciplinary nature of these areas constitutes, in fact, the added value on the study of the mind in the 21st century.
Students will learn what cognitive science is, how it came about and for what needs. They will understand what are the tools that philosophy can exploit, for the understanding of the functioning of the mind, from the knowledge of the results of scientific disciplines. They will also learn to think about a specific problem by looking at it from different points of view. They will also focus on understanding how the learning process takes place from an interdisciplinary point of view. They will also begin to learn notions from neuroscience useful for understanding cognitive processes and human behavior.
No prerequisites are required other than a good ability to broaden one's point of view and a predisposition to interdisciplinarity
