The course supplies the basic statistical tools to know the nature and the structure of touristic demand with special attention to the seasonal component.
The theoretical approach will be accompanied with applied activities in order to learn the use of adequate statistical tools (sotware R or GRETL).
1. Knowledge and understanding
1.1 Ability to use statistical tools for the analysis of economic phenomena;
1.2 Ability to develop an overview of quantitative issues relevant to understanding economic dynamics.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding
2.1 Ability to interpret and represent the main economic phenomena related to market and tourism businesses;
2.2 Ability to select, estimate and verify multiple regression models.

3. Making judgements:
3.1 Ability to propose and comment different methods of forecasting tourist flows;
3.2 Ability to discuss the results obtained from the study of business cases.
Prerequisites must be met (https://www.unive.it/web/en/4347/exams )

- Sources of tourism data
- Statistical ratio and index numbers
- Analysis of cross-sectional data: multiple regression
- Analysis of time series data

The final exam consists of a written test and an oral/practical test, and it aims to assess whether the student has acquired the basic concepts of the course and is able to integrate this knowledge with the ability to solve practical problems.
The written test includes a quiz with 4 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-ended questions.
Multiple-choice questions award a maximum positive score of 1 point each, while open-ended questions award a maximum positive score of 3 points each.
Students may take the oral exam only if they achieve a minimum score of 5 on the written test.
The oral/practical test, lasting approximately 20 minutes, may include the completion of exercises and an interview with the instructor. The maximum score for this part is 20 points.
The final grade will be the sum of the scores obtained in the two tests.
written and oral
Evaluating grid:
A. Scores from 18 to 21 points are awarded if the student demonstrates acquisition of basic knowledge in statistics applied to tourism.
B. Scores from 22 to 26 points are awarded if the student demonstrates the ability to use statistical sources to obtain data and perform elementary data processing.
C. Scores from 27 to 30 points are awarded if the student demonstrates the ability to use statistical sources to obtain data and perform complex analyses of tourism data.
D. "Cum laude" (with honors/distinction) will be awarded if the student demonstrates an original ability to solve complex analyses and data processing tasks.
Lectures, practice sessions, and tutorials.
During the lesson period, the student is encouraged to complete some exercises and self-assessment tests available on the e-learning platform.
This activity is not mandatory to access the exam.
