The course is part of the Related or Additional Studies [C] of the degree in Economics and Business.
The aim is to raise awareness of the economic elements of the agri-food system, agricultural sector and farms. Starting from the concept of Food Security, in light of the principles of sustainability and multifunctionality, the study plan traces the basic elements of agricultural economics, farms and agricultural budget, the structural elements of the Italian agricultural sector. This is followed by the economic analysis of the agri-food policies that can be adopted and the study of the birth and development of the Common Agricultural Policy, in light of the new strategies: European Green Deal, From Farm to Fork, Biodiversity and the CAP reform 2023-2027.
1 Knowledge and Understanding.
1.1 Configuring the economic characteristics of the agricultural sector and of the farms.
1.2 Identifying suitable agricultural policy measures, in light of the emerging sustainability and multifunctional concepts of agriculture.
1.3 Representing the evolutionary path and the current structure of the Community Agricultural Policy.
2 Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.
2.1 Selecting correctly concepts and methods to make efficient decisions in the economy choices related to the agricultural sector and farms.
2.2 Constructing the most suitable agricultural policy measures according to the different economic-social objectives to be pursued.
2.3 Monitoring and highlighting the effects resulting from the implementation of the Community Agricultural Policy.
3. Judgment skills.
3.1 Abstracting and interpreting the economic model related to agricultural economy and policy, explaining them critically.
3.2 Using of economic tools (graphs, models) to communicate and explain the economic agricultural phenomena and differentiating the effects of the agrarian policy measures on the markets,
3.3 Carrying out autonomously the study and the deepening of analysis of the ecomic-agrarian phenomena through research projects, the elaboration of essays and reports.
Mandatory priority Exams: none.
Prerequisites: basic skills in Economics (micro and macro) and Mathematics (first module). Basic skills in demand and supply economic models and market forms.

The assessment of learning outcomes aims to verify the degree of acquisition of knowledge, skills and competences achieved. The evaluation is based on a final exam administered, for the first two exam sessions, in Moodle quiz mode. The exam submits 30 multiple choice questions with 4 alternatives, to be completed in 20 minutes. Each correct answer is awarded 1 point. The final score is equivalent to the number of correct answers. Please note that the test is administered in sequential mode, so it is not possible to go back, while unanswered questions are lost. For the second two exam sessions, a written test is planned, consisting of four open questions and exercises on economics and agricultural policy. This is to give the student the opportunity to fully argue the answers by applying the contents of the discipline studied.

For the Moodle Quiz, which consists of thirty multiple choice questions with four alternatives, one point is awarded for each correct answer. A sufficient score is obtained by reaching eighteen correct answers. Achieving thirty correct answers automatically provides for honors. Please note that the test does not provide penalties for incorrect answers. For the open-ended test, there are four questions consisting of open issues or exercises on the economic-political-agrarian topics being studied. In this case, the grade is awarded by the teacher based on the student's argumentative ability with respect to the economic-agrarian content being tested. For the exercises, the judgment is formulated based on the correctness of the presentation in solving the proposed problems, as well as the accuracy of the results achieved.
The Course is conducted through classroom lessons.
The study can be carried out with the help of Moodle platform and the Teacher's Book.
Registration on the Ca' Foscari moodle platform is recommended.
