Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
The aim is to raise awareness of the economic elements of the agri-food system, agricultural sector and farms. Starting from the concept of Food Security, in light of the principles of sustainability and multifunctionality, the study plan traces the basic elements of agricultural economics, farms and agricultural budget, the structural elements of the Italian agricultural sector. This is followed by the economic analysis of the agri-food policies that can be adopted and the study of the birth and development of the Common Agricultural Policy, in light of the new strategies: European Green Deal, From Farm to Fork, Biodiversity and the CAP reform 2023-2027.
Expected learning outcomes
1.1 Configuring the economic characteristics of the agricultural sector and of the farms.
1.2 Identifying suitable agricultural policy measures, in light of the emerging sustainability and multifunctional concepts of agriculture.
1.3 Representing the evolutionary path and the current structure of the Community Agricultural Policy.
2 Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.
2.1 Selecting correctly concepts and methods to make efficient decisions in the economy choices related to the agricultural sector and farms.
2.2 Constructing the most suitable agricultural policy measures according to the different economic-social objectives to be pursued.
2.3 Monitoring and highlighting the effects resulting from the implementation of the Community Agricultural Policy.
3. Judgment skills.
3.1 Abstracting and interpreting the economic model related to agricultural economy and policy, explaining them critically.
3.2 Using of economic tools (graphs, models) to communicate and explain the economic agricultural phenomena and differentiating the effects of the agrarian policy measures on the markets,
3.3 Carrying out autonomously the study and the deepening of analysis of the ecomic-agrarian phenomena through research projects, the elaboration of essays and reports.
Pre-requirements
Prerequisites: basic skills in Economics (micro and macro) and Mathematics (first module). Basic skills in demand and supply economic models and market forms.

Teaching methods
