The course is part of the core courses in the curriculum which provides knowledge in one of the two chosen languages, in this case Turkish. The aim of the course is to obtain level B2 of the CEFR.
1. Knowledge and comprehension
- To understand complex structures of Turkish
- To learn advanced grammatical rules, especially at the level of syntax

2. Capacity of application
- Apply the learned grammatical rules to academic texts on linguistics and sociolinguistics, as well as modern and contemporary literary texts
- Capacity of linguistic analysis of texts in terms of morphology and syntax through glossing
- Capacity of translation, into the student's mothertongue, of an academic or literary Turkish text of intermediate difficulty.
Exam Turkish Language 2 of B1 level according to CEFR
The texts and contents of the course are subdivided in a linguistic and a literature section. The linguistic part includes the following topics:
- The levels of description: phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicon, semantics, pragmatics

In the literature section prose and poetry texts from the modern and contemporary period will be studied.

Moreover, linguistic analysis of grammatical phenomena and exercises of translation will be conducted on both academic and literary texts.

The literary texts will be provided by instructor.
The exam consists of an autonomous research undertaken by the student, in two various stages, plus a conversation exam with the language instructor; the parts of the exam are thus divided as following:
1. a paper (ca. 2500 words) on a topic agreed with the professor, with the glossing and translation of a Turkish text (written part of the final exam)
2. an oral presentation of the written paper in Turkish (intermediate exam)
3. a conversation exam with the language instructor (oral part of the final exam)
written and oral
Independently from the attendance modality, evaluation is expressed by the following assessment scale:
18-22:
- sufficient knowledge and capacity to understand what has been requested according to the course program
- sufficient capacity of application of the acquired knowledge through grammar analysis
- sufficient capacity of data collecting and interpretation and of autonomous research

23-26:
. average knowledge and capacity to understand what has been requested according to the course program
- average capacity of application of the acquired knowledge through grammar analysis
- average capacity of data collecting and interpretation and of autonomous research


27-30:
- good or very good knowledge and capacity to understand what has been requested according to the course program
- good or very good capacity of application of the acquired knowledge through grammar analysis
- good or very good capacity of data collecting and interpretation and of autonomous research

The grade of excellence ("lode") is assigned in cases of excellent achievements according to the criteria listed above.
Lecture, analysis exercises in class and as homework

Students unable to attend the classes are requested to contact the professor at the beginning of the semester.

Attendance of the exercise classes with the language instructor is strongly recommended IN BOTH SEMESTERS for non Turkish-native students.

THE COURSE INCLUDES ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE EXERCISE CLASSES PROVIDED BY THE LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR DR. FATİH ALPER TAŞBAŞ. IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT STUDENTS ATTEND THESE CLASSES IN ORDER TO OBTAIN AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF LANGUAGE COMPETENCE.
