The seminar will address topics such as public service interpreting, interpreter training and improving the accessibility of information for migrant communities through adaptation practices. It will raise awareness of translation and mediation practices in Estonia within the social welfare and legal domains, offering practical examples based on real-life scenarios in Estonian public services. The seminar will also cover methodological approaches to terminology extraction and information mining in the creation of material for interpreting and mediation sessions. Speaker bionote: Katerina Maadla is a Junior Researcher in Translation Studies at Tallinn University, Estonia. She is currently involved in the KONE-funded project “Translation, Migration, and Democracy: Managing Multilingual Access to Information in the Greater Helsinki Area and in Tallinn.” Holding a master's degree in conference interpreting, Katerina has worked for over ten years as an interpreter for both public and private institutions. Her doctoral research focuses on public service interpreting, interpreter training, and improving information accessibility for migrant communities through translatory practices.
