The teaching is part of the characteryzing activities of the Iberian and Ibero-American Studies path of the master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Languages and Literatures and aims to deepen the knowledge on the Macao’s literature
1. Knowledge and understanding: to understand and interpret what means the concept of ‘literature of Macao’ and Macanese literature in the context of colonial and postcolonial thinking; to read and analyze some corpus of the literature of Macao.

2. Applied knowledge and understanding: understand how the canon of Macao’s literature is formed, applying theoretical concepts to the reading of a novel or a poetic text.

3. Autonomy of judgment: to develop the ability to choose adequate bibliography references and apply adequate concepts to create a critical thinking about Macanese culture and literature.

4. Communication skills: to understand the presentation of an academic discourse: express concepts with clarity and terminological precision, such as, for example, being able to define ‘Macanese’ and so on.

5. Ability to learn: recognyze the historical, social and cultural context in which the examined materials are produced and the ideas of which they are an expression in order to formulate an analytical hypothesis on the Macanese culture.
Basic knowledge of European history and cultures.
The year of 2023 marks the centenary of the birth of one of the most important Macanese writers, Henrique de Senna Fernandes. The course aims to study, in a broad way, the literature of Macao, of different authors, from Macao but also from outside the region and of multiple facets, as follows: historical; psychological; fantastic; yellow; pink or adventure novel; chronicle and poetry. The course will be divided into two parts: one dedicated to the historical context of Macao and Macanese literature, and another in which it is proposed that each student does personal research on a book, analyzing it critically.
