This course deals with the role of research in accounting and finance; the method of scientific inquiry; experimentation, fact finding, design of data collection methods, and analysis of collected data and interpretation of results, and formulation of business related research projects by students.
By the end of this course students will be able to:
-Apply research methods in doing research in Accounting and Finance
-Have foundation knowledge for scientific reasoning and solutions for business problems
-Implement the research process in doing research
-Prepare research proposal for a project
-Explain the various tools and techniques of research
-Apply various methodologies of social research to solve Business problems
-Define the sources of data and data collection techniques
Knowledge of accounting and finance disciplines
The course covers the following topics:
Introduction and Meaning of Research
Objectives of Research
Features and Importance of Research in Accounting and Finance, Objectives and Types of Research – Basic, Applied, Descriptive, Analytical and Empirical Research
Formulation of Research Problem: Meaning and Selection
Review of Literature
Research Design in Accounting and Finance
Data Collection and Processing
Interpretation and Report Writing

Study materials to be used in the course will be presented and explained at the beginning of the first lecture


The course grade will be based on a final examination. The final examination will be closed book and notes. Students will be asked to present a research project.
Classes will comprise a mixture of theoretical and practical input and problem-based discussions. Classes will be interactive and students will be required to actively participate.
