The course is among those characterizing the Master's Degree Programme in MANAGEMENT - ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE. The course aims at deepening the understanding of public policies for economic development and fundamental issues shaping the spatial distribution of economic activity
1. Knowledge and comprehension skills:
1.1. understanding problems and challenges in the design of public policies for economic development
1.2 examining different perspectives of development in relation to the spatial distribution of resources and public policies
1.3 learning how the geographical distribution of economic actors shapes development trajectories

2. Applied knowledge and comprehension skills:
2.1. using statistical and basic econometric models to evaluate public policies;
The course requires the knowledge of the topics covered in a course of Public economics at a Bachelor level. Knowledge of econometrics is preferred.
Course topics:

Overview of fundamental perspectives on economic development and public policy:
- Institutional Economics
- New Economic Geography

Public policies for economic development:
- Infrastructure policy
- Innovation policy
- Spatial policies: Place-Based vs. Spatially-Neutral
- Political implications of spatial policies
- EU Cohesion Policy

The role of multinational enterprises:
- Location strategies of MNEs
- The impact of FDI on local economies
- FDI attraction policies
There is no single textbook - the course will be based on academic papers
Readings and handouts will be available online on Moodle
written ONLINE exam involving essay questions on the topics covered in the course

The Moodle website will include exercises and examples of exam questions.
The course is organized in:
a) lectures,
b) individual study.
Students are encouraged to attend classes in an active way, reading the chapters of the book / papers before coming to class and doing the exercises (available on the Moodle platform).
