This course is part of the Minor "Art Critic and Curatorial Practices" which aims to trace the fundamentals of art history, from the late Middle Ages to the contemporary, analyzing the main artistic techniques and materials of art, in order to identify the changes in visual culture, also considering how much the systems of vision change - from perspective to the structures of installations in the environment. Attention will also be paid to conservation and restoration issues.

- ability to apply knowledge and understanding: knowing how to use the reference terminology and recognize the main artists and works of art being studied
- ability of judgment: knowing how to analyze a work of art or the poetics of an artist or a group/movement among those studied, referring them to a correct temporal and cultural location
- communicative skills: knowing how to use appropriate and specific terminology, introduced and explained in lessons or in reference texts
- learning ability: being able to recognize the fundamental protagonists of art

No prerequisites are required to attend the course
The course intends to provide the basic tools for the knowledge of modern and contemporary works of art with particular attention to the main strands of art literature and some eminent figures in art curating. By involving students in participatory learning processes, it will also be explored how critical interpretations and the history of exhibitions are exercised from the Renaissance to today: from the birth of connoisseurship to the role of exhibition curator understood in the broadest sense, both within the museum and as an independent agent or within organizations of cultural services and promotion of exhibition events.

Oral exam aimed at verifying the theoretical knowledge acquired during the lessons. At the end of the course the student must be able to think critically about the examined case studies starting from a personal written study.
Lectures, comparisons and interactions with students and other cultural operators. The course will take place in presence with the possibility of following in streaming.
