The module introduces core topics and historiographical debates related to Modern history with a specific focus on the 20th century.
The attendance, the active participation in the course and individual study will allow students:
- to acquire the knowledge of the general lines and of some major themes of modern history;
- to identify and analyze primary sources.
Good knowledge of Italian.
The course will provide general outlines of the history of 20th century and relative historiographical debates.
Mandatory reading:
Alberto M. Banti, L’età contemporanea. Dalla Grande Guerra a oggi, Laterza 2009 (o ed. successive).

Students who cannot attend the module will add: M. Bloch, Apologia della storia. Il mestiere di storico, Torino, Einaudi, 2006
Written test with short-answer questions on what is explained in class and on the bibliography of the course.
