The Italian language course at Intermediate - Advanced level includes the teaching of the four basic skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing), integrated skills (dialogue), grammar and vocabulary appropriate to the level, as well as historical, geographical and cultural aspects of the Italian language to enable students to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the language and effective communication.
At the end of the course students must be able to interact with native speakers in an autonomous and advanced manner, understand complex oral and written messages in Italian, be able to narrate in oral and written form the present, the recent and remote past with appropriate fluency and lexical breadth and with use of idiomatic forms of speech. They must be able to express their opinion clearly using the appropriate grammatical forms and demonstrating knowledge of historical facts, culture and art of Italy. They must also be able to use some language for specific purposes appropriately and effectively.

Students have to demonstrate A1 and A2 level knowledge of the Italian language: knowing how to greet and introduce oneself, saying and asking what a person does for a living, talking about food and cooking, knowing how to describe one's home, giving and asking for directions, expressing one's preferences, describing the weather, a holiday in the recent past, asking and telling the time, writing and telling a date in Italian, writing a postcard or a short e-mail in Italian style and language, talking about one's family, knowing how to interact and shop in a shop or supermarket, describing minor health problems and asking for advice. To know the Italian cultural model with respect to each topic, idioms and cultural expressions, to know colloquial expressions and youth language.
They are able to express their opinions on different topics, to be able to describe people and things by making a personal evaluation, to give and ask for information on certain topics, to express their preferences, to describe historical events that happened in a distant time, to write formal texts in Italian style and language, to be able to interact with natives by showing knowledge of Italian history, culture and famous people. They know the Italian cultural model regarding different topics, idioms and cultural expressions, colloquial expressions and the language of youth.

Written and oral testing of language skills and grammatical knowledge during the course and at the end.
Communicative, contrastive, functional method, problem solving and cooperative learning. Activities with different technologies, tools and aids will be proposed to promote multiple intelligence (MIT) and different cognitive styles.
