Mandatory course of the B.A. program in Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and North Africa with Southeast Asia.
Knowledge and Understanding:
- Complete Thai language theoretical skills at A2 level
- Complete Thai language practical skills at A2 level
- Know and understand the functions of Thai grammatical structures in the basic level and four different skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: - - Know how to identify the different grammatical categories and their properties.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the basic grammatical structures of the Thai language.
- Know how to describe the constructions, syllables and the resulting tone, and grammatical phenomena studied during the course, correctly using the terminology and basic syntactic analysis tools acquired.
- Engage in conversations at A2 level

CEFR Level A2: The student communicates in simple and routine tasks that require a simple exchange of information on familiar and common topics. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background and immediate environment; can express matters in matters of immediate need.
Completion of the Thai 1 course with grammar and language exercises (LT7070).
Each week, appropriate grammatical and lexical elements will be introduced to the topics covered in the form of short written texts, dialogues, or videos, up to level A2 of language proficiency. The students will interact in class with the classmates or the teacher to deal with some situational sentences or paragraphs.

One takeaway homework (maximum one page) will be assigned for the students’ self-learning and discussed in the following week.

Written and oral exam.

The exam consists of a single test (written and oral), with the first session taking place during the Spring exam session. The written exam will last one hour, followed immediately by the oral exams (both must be taken on the same day).

Written exam consists of open-ended and multiple-choice questions, covering phonetics, writing, reading, and translation from Thai to Italian and vice versa.

Oral exam consists of a monologue, a dialogue, and a role play.

The final grade will be determined by the average of the written and oral scores.

The exam is identical for both attending and non-attending students.

Grades will be assigned according to the following scale:

A. Scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded for: sufficient knowledge and applied understanding of the program;

B. Scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded for: fair knowledge and applied understanding of the program;

C. Scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded for good or excellent knowledge and applied understanding of the program;

D. Honors will be awarded for excellent knowledge and applied understanding of the program.
