KOREAN LANGUAGE MOD.1

Korean Language mod. 1 '(second language) is one of the core courses within the "China" and "Japan" curriculum of the Corso di Laurea in "Lingue, Culture e Società dell'Asia e dell'Africa Mediterranea". Its formative objectives fall within the area of language skills learning.
Two modules divided into the two semesters.

1. Language knowledge and language comprehension:
Complete the knowledge of grammatical structures of Korean at Beginners' level. Knowledge and understanding of the usage of grammatical structures of Korean at Beginners' level (CEFR Level A1+/A2)

2. Ability to apply language knowledge and comprehension:
Ability to identify grammar categories and their properties. Demonstrate a general comprehension of Korean grammatical structures for beginners. Ability to describe constructs and grammatical phenomena of Korean, acquired during the course. Ability to make a correct use of terminology and basic tools of syntactic analysis acquired.

No prerequisites are required.

Korean Language Course Outline (15 Lessons)

1st lesson: Introduction to the Korean alphabet, vowels
2nd lesson: Consonants, syllables, batchim (final consonants)
3rd lesson: Greetings, N은/는, N이에요/예요, N입니까? N입니다, pronunciation rules (1)
4th lesson: N이/가 아닙니다, N이/가 있어요 [없어요]
5th lesson: 이거는 N이에요/예요, pronunciation rules (2), N 주세요, N하고 [와/과]
6th lesson: V-아요/어요/여요, object particle N을/를
7th lesson: N에서, 안 V, 여기가 N이에요/예요
8th lesson: N에 있어요/없어요, location, N에 (place), N에 가요/와요
9th lesson: Numbers (1), date and days, N에 (time)
10th lesson: -았/었/였-, V-고, V-(으)세요
11th lesson: Korean counters, pronunciation rules (3), A-아요/어요/여요, N도
12th lesson: Irregular verbs with ‘ㅂ’, V/A-지만, pronunciation rules (4), ㅂ니다/습니다
13th lesson: A-고, V-(으)ㄹ까요
14th lesson: Irregular verbs with ‘ㄷ’, 이/그/저, A/V-네요
15th lesson: Exam simulation, review, and exam preparation

The final exam consists of a written test (about 1 h) with multiple choice questions and open questions on the course program.

The 12 credits associated with this class will be achieved after passing the Mod 1 and Mod 2(final) exam. The final grade will be determined by the average of the grades obtained in each of the two tests
The grade achieved in part I (Mod 1) will be valid until the completion of part II (Mod 2) and no later than the first appeal of January of the following year.
In case of failure to pass part II (Mod 2) the first appeal in January, the student will have to take again the exam of the first part (Mod 1) and will be able to do starting from the second appeal of January.

Score range 18–22: Demonstrates a sufficient command of basic grammatical structures, with adequate ability in listening and interaction within simple communicative contexts.
Score range 23–26: Demonstrates a fair command of basic grammatical structures, with a reasonable ability in listening and interaction within simple communicative contexts.
Score range 27–30: Demonstrates a good to very good command of basic grammatical structures, with a solid ability in listening and interaction within simple communicative contexts.
Honors (Lode): Demonstrates an excellent command of basic grammatical structures, with an outstanding ability in listening and interaction within simple communicative contexts.

Lectures and exercises with Power Point presentations. Presentations and in-depth materials will be available on the moodle.
