The course focuses on the main concepts relating to the role that tourism plays in transforming places, both from the socio-economic and environmental perspectives. It offers knowledge and theoretical tools useful for interpreting the geographical dimension of tourism phenomena, discussing some of the ways in which places are transformed by tourism. The course also provides elements of the evolution of international tourism markets and flows.
The instructional goal of the course is that of developing knowledge about:
- the importance of tourism as lever of local and regional change change
- the complexity of the relationship between tourism, environment and territory
- The role that environmental problems and climate change can play in conditioning tourism development

The achievement of specific practical and applied skills will concern:
- assessment of coastal environments an landscapes as tourism and recreation assets.
- the role that environmental resources have in planning tourist development.
- the role that governance has in promoting sustainable tourism practices.
Basic knowledge of economics and economics of tourism.

Students are advised to enroll in the course page on Moodle, where all the materials needed to attend the course and prepare for the exam will be uploaded.
Written examination on the topics covered in class: 5 open-ended questions to be completed in 50 minutes. The first 4 questions are worth a maximum of 7.5 points each. The fifth question is optional, worth 1 point, and will be graded only if the other 4 answers are perfect (that is, if each is awarded 7.5 points, for a total of 30 points), in order to obtain lode. The highest possible mark is 30 cum laude (awarded only to students who achieve a total score of 31).

The exam is intended to assess students’ preparation on the topics presented during the lectures.

The exam will be taken in class on the Moodle platform.
The instructor reserves the right to complement the written exam with an oral interview if deemed necessary to ensure that the work was completed independently and honestly.

The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.

The exam is assessed by a 50-minute written examination consisting of 5 open-ended questions.
• Questions 1–4 are each worth a maximum of 7.5 points
• Question 5 is optional, worth 1 additional point, and is considered only for the award of lode

Scoring structure
• Questions 1–4 together are worth a maximum of 30 points
• Students pass the exam with a minimum score of 18/30
• The fifth question is graded only if the first four answers are all perfect, that is, if the student has already obtained 30/30
• If the fifth question is also answered successfully, the final grade is 30/30 e lode

Final grading scale
• Below 18/30 = fail
• 18/30 to 29/30 = pass
• 30/30 = highest mark
• 30/30 e lode = awarded only to students who reach the equivalent of 31 points overall
Teaching will be in presence with frontal lectures and seminars.
