This course is designed to provide students with the theoretical foundations and practical tools required to analyze and evaluate financial statements. The aim is to prepare future managers and leaders to assess the value and performance of businesses in both quantitative and qualitative terms. Through a structured framework, the course equips participants to understand the complexities of financial decision-making in today's dynamic business environment, emphasizing the importance of going beyond mere numbers and models to understand the broader implications of financial data. By addressing these questions, students will develop the necessary skills to make informed decisions that align with sustainable and responsible management practices.
1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Identify and understand the main financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) and their components.
Evaluate corporate performance using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Identify and analyze different components of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and notes to the accounts.
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Apply financial ratios, trend analysis, and benchmarking techniques to assess profitability, liquidity, solvency, and efficiency.
Apply financial analysis tools, including the use of Excel for data analysis and model creation.
3. MAKING JUDGEMENTS
Use financial statements to evaluate company performance, detect financial risks, and support decision-making.
Successful completion of the ET4004 Accounting and Business Administration exam is a prerequisite for enrolling in this course.

It is recommended to download Excel (all students can download Microsoft Office 365 for free in partnership with Ca' Foscari).

Compulsory written exam. The exam consists in one open question and three exercises. Time: 90 minutes.

A. scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- sufficient knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;

B. scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- good knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;

C. scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- excellent knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;
- excellent ability to apply knowledge and understanding and judgment;
- excellent communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language relating to the subject.
