The course aims to provide students with knowledge of, and the ability to interpret, the legal framework governing the labour market and employment relationships. Students will develop a solid understanding of labour law, with particular attention to the regulatory challenges arising from globalization and the digitalization of the economy.

The course will also enable students to acquire appropriate legal terminology and analytical skills, allowing them to interpret legal rules in light of labour policy objectives, market dynamics, and the influence of economic factors on the regulation of work.
1. Knowledge and Understanding
1.1. Demonstrate knowledge of the legal framework governing employment relationships and interpret it in light of the multilevel evolution of labour law sources.
1.2. Demonstrate knowledge of the main institutions of labour law and trade union law, with particular reference to individual and collective rights.
1.3. Understand the evolution of the labour market and of different forms of employment, and assess their impact on individuals' professional and personal lives.
1.4. Understand the role of work as a means of personal fulfilment, professional development and social inclusion.

2. Applying Knowledge and Understanding
2.1. Identify and classify the different forms of employment relationships and the corresponding systems of legal protection.
2.2. Identify and connect the various national, European and international sources of labour law within a multilevel regulatory framework.
2.3. Apply legislation, case law and legal principles to specific situations, highlighting the objectives and critical issues of the relevant regulatory framework.

3. Making Judgements
3.1. Interpret and critically analyse labour law provisions and legal developments.
3.2. Critically assess the interaction between national, European and international labour law sources, as well as the relevant case law.
3.3. Analyse and propose solutions to practical cases involving labour law disputes and employment-related issues.
Knowledge of the fundamental legal institutions of private law.
Labour in the globalisation era; Industry 4.0 and the impact on labour market; the sources at national and supranational level; the actors, the collective bargaining and the strike; the labour market dynamics; employee versus self-employee; the contractual labour relationship; the transformation of enterprise and its impact on labour rights; the crise of the enterprise.

The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.

The final grade, expressed on a 30-point scale, is based on the outcome of the oral examination, which aims to assess students’ knowledge of the course content, their ability for critical analysis, appropriate use of legal terminology, and the capacity to apply theoretical concepts to practical cases. Particular attention will be given to the consistency of argumentation and clarity of expression. Additional points may be awarded to students who actively participate in group work, provided their contribution is meaningful and clearly identifiable, as evaluated by the instructor. Honors (“cum laude”) may be granted in cases of outstanding performance, marked by independence of judgment and critical insight.

Assessment Criteria:
Grades will be awarded according to the following criteria:
Grades between 18 and 22, will be awarded to students who demonstrate:
-a sufficient knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the course;
-a limited ability to collect, analyse and interpret legal materials and to formulate independent judgements;
-satisfactory communication skills, particularly with regard to the use of appropriate labour law terminology.
Grades between 23 and 26, will be awarded to students who demonstrate:
-a fair to good knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the course;
- a satisfactory ability to collect, analyse and interpret legal materials and to formulate independent judgements;
- good communication skills, particularly with regard to the use of appropriate labour law terminology.
Grades between 27 and 30, will be awarded to students who demonstrate:
-a good to excellent knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the course;
-a good to excellent ability to analyse and interpret legal materials and to formulate independent judgements;
-highly effective communication skills, particularly with regard to the use of appropriate labour law terminology.
Honours (30 cum laude), will be awarded to students who demonstrate an outstanding level of knowledge and understanding of the course content, an excellent ability to apply and critically assess legal concepts, a high degree of independent judgement, and excellent communication skills, including the accurate use of labour law terminology.
