GEOGRAPHY II

The course is included among the basic courses of the Bachelor's degree in Literature and in History and it is characterized by objectives and teaching methods consistent with the Geography I course (Surnames A-L).
The course addresses the diversity, socio-economic and cultural, of the geographical spaces as a product of adaptation processes triggered by different environmental prerogatives. In this perspective, the concept of landscape assumes a key role in synthesizing the historical relations between society and the environment.
In particular, some specific types of landscape that deeply mark the Italian peninsula, such as the landscapes of land reclamation and agricultural terracing, are analyzed.

1. Knowledge and understanding:
1.1 Knowledge of the basic concepts of the geography of the environment and landscape
1.2 Knowledge of the evolutive patterns of landscapes, with particular reference to European agrarian landscapes

2. Applying knowledge and analyzing:
2.1 Use the tools of geography to interpret territorial and socio-cultural diversity, processes of different spatial development, and the elements that act in the production of geographic landscapes
2.2 Know how to identify the determinants of landscape conservation and transformation


3. Ability to judge:
3.1 Evaluate the historical and environmental factors, that contribute to shaping some geographical reality
3.2 Know how to interpret the landscape in its constituent elements, including as tools for territorial enhancement and communication

4. Communication skills:
4.1 Writing in a logic, coherent and synthetic style, in order to expose the knowledge gained
4.2 Use of an appropriate semantic and linguistic register

Having successfully passed the Geography I examination

During the course, some models of transformation of physical space and consequent construction of specific human landscapes will be analyzed: viticultural landscapes, terraced landscapes and reclamation landscapes in Italy.

Written exam with questions targeted at the measurement of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding and the ability to judge. One question is scheduled for each part of the program. The final grade is given by the average of the grades, expressed in thirtieths, achieved in each question. At the examination, it is necessary to be equipped with lined paper or, alternatively, a laptop or tablet computer placed in off-line mode.

Evaluation:
27-30 cum laude: excellent knowledge of the syllabus with the ability to analyse the texts in depth; organic vision of the themes addressed in class and/or studied in the texts; excellent disciplinary language and adequate semantic register

23-26: good knowledge of the syllabus and ability to analyse correctly but with some imperfections; fair ownership of disciplinary language with some uncertainty in exposition and/or imprecision

18-22: sufficient but sketchy knowledge of the syllabus; superficial understanding of texts and limited ability to analyse; expression not always appropriate.

negative assessment: poor knowledge of the programme; inadequate ability to analyse; incorrect or inappropriate written expression
