Overview: knowledge of the Artic and Antarctic geography, climate, marine and terrestrial ecosystems, general characteristics of Arctic and Southern Oceans, effects of climate change. Basics are provided on the Arctic and Antarctic trophic webs and their functioning, biodiversity, adaptive strategies of selected iconic or ecologically relevant organisms of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, Arctic human populations; role of distribution/density of the global and Arctic human population and their relationships with contamination.
