Topics of the course: Brief review of crystallography and diffraction. Principles of electron microscopy. Technical description of transmission electron microscope. Sample preparation methods. Imaging in TEM and STEM modes. Conventional and advanced electron diffraction techniques (SAED, NED, 3DED, ASTAR). Chemical analysis via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX/EDS). Laboratory activities: practical applications of the techniques described above.
