The course is part of the theoretical and professional academic program of the Master's degree in International Management. It examines the management and governance of nonprofit organizations from an interdisciplinary perspective. Through the analysis of case studies of real-world organizations, it explores the challenges associated with the particular organisational and institutional context of the so-called ‘third sector’ and its recent transformations, developing students' analytical and critical skills.
Students will learn to adopt different social science perspectives on nonprofit organizations, to apply some key management tools typical of this 'sector', and to appreciate the merits and limitations of managerial tools across a diversity of settings.
No prerequisites are required.
Actors and boundaries of the third sector. The rise of the NPO. Strategic Management in NPOs. Management Control tools. Performance measurement. Accountability & Governance.
