Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
This year topic will be: "Catalan literature in Italy. Histories of Translations".
The course will focus especially on the relationship between Italian and Catalan cultures from the times of Raymundus Lullus and Dante up to the present and it is strictly connected to mod. 1.
Expected learning outcomes
Reaching a knowledge and capacity for interpreting some of the most important features in the relationship between Catalan and Italian cultures from the 13th century up to the present.
Developing an ability to use acquired knowledges to interpret current events in Catalonia as long-term phenomena.
Shaping cognitive tools in order to help students to form his or her own opinion in Catalan history and culture.
Developing specific skills, competencies, and points of view related to the texts of the program.

Contents
1. Raymundus Lullus and Italy
2. Dante in Catalonia. From Andreu Febrer up to the present.
3. Ausiàs March in Italy. Joanot Martorell in Italian.
4. Catalonia and Italy in the 19th century.
5. The first half of the 20th century between Italy and Catalonia.
6. Cultural relationship after Franco's death. The rebirth of Catalan Institutions. The first translations of contemporary catalan novels.
7. Italian and Catalan culture in the last decades (1997-2024).
Some outstanding works and authors of the period will be chosen and discussed during each class and some translations from Catalan to italian and from Italian to Catalan will be commented.

Assessment methods
Type of exam
The lecturer has a duty to ensure that the rules regarding the authenticity and originality of exam tests and papers are respected. Therefore, if there is suspicion of irregular conduct, an additional assessment may be conducted, which could differ from the original exam description.

Criteria. Based on the percentage weight of each topic, the grade is determined—both for the exam and the paper—as follows: Familiarity with the requested or discussed topic (10 points). Level of depth and critical analysis (10 points). Ability to structure the presentation in a logical and sequential manner, with well-argued content, adequate conciseness, and without irrelevant narrative embellishments (10 points)
