The course of Polish Language - Language and Translation is among the characterizing teachings of the courses of study in "European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature" and "Language Sciences". It consists of a teacher module and language support classes. It aims to develop advanced skills (at C1 level of the European Common framework) in the field of Polish literary language, deepen the study of complex sentence structures and improve translation techniques from Polish to Italian and vice versa.
Expected learning outcomes
The course of Polish Language - Language and Translation consists of a teacher module and language support classes. It aims: a) to develop advanced skills in the field of Polish literary language; b) to deepen and widen the study of complex sentence structures; c) to improve translation techniques from Polish to Italian and vice versa.
Knowledge and understanding
Understanding and properly formulating speeches in Polish language on complex and articulate issues.
Reading and understanding complex texts of various types.
Understanding an Polish language text and to be able to translating it.
Applying knowledge and understanding
Acquiring the ability to understand and produce all kinds of oral and written text and place it in the correct cultural context.
Knowing how to interact in polish language in formal and informal situations, recognizing the diversity of the linguistic register.
Acquiring the ability to translate into Italian texts of different type.

Be able to develop the ability to assess the linguistic data; retrieve and use the bibliographical sources; develop the ability to translate from polish language into Italian and vice versa.

Being able to communicate in a clear and structured Polish language, using a terminology appropriate to the communicative context.

Language exercises (divided by year) will help students achieve a fluent understanding of the Polish language, both written and oral, through the practice of grammar, syntax, the practice of specific vocabulary of sectoral languages, conversation and translation.

Assessment methods
Written test:
The written test, aimed at verifying the achievement of the global linguistic competence (level B2/C1 of the CEFR – I year mag, level C1/C2 of the CEFR – II year mag), consists of four parts whose average results give a rating out of thirtieths: 1) grammatical test; 2) lexical exercises; 3) comprehension of the written text; 4) written production.
The exercises of the written test are developed by adopting different glottodidactic techniques and methods.
Duration: 4 hours (of 60 min.)
Oral test:
The oral test consists of an interview aimed at verifying the competence on the topics of the course. Both are mandatory and will allow to verify the level of theoretical and practical preparation in the Polish language.

Grading scale
the final grade will be given by the average of the grades obtained by adding the grade of the grammatical test, the lexical exercises, the comprehension of the written text and the written production, all calculated in thirtieths.
The grading of the oral test is determined by the following criteria:
A. scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded in the presence of: ability to present the contents in a simple way, sufficient knowledge and ability to apply comprehension in reference to the program;
B. scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded in the presence of: ability to present the contents in an articulated way, fair knowledge and ability to
apply comprehension in reference to the program;
C. scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded in the presence of: ability to analyze, clear and correct presentation, good or excellent knowledge and ability to apply comprehension in reference to the program;
D. honors will be awarded in the presence of: well-established ability to apply the contents, excellent analytical ability, mastery of exposition, knowledge and ability to apply understanding of the excellent program.
The grades of the written test and the oral test are averaged. If the average is equivalent to 30/30, honors may be awarded in the case of excellent performance in all the items considered.
