HISPANIC-AMERICAN LANGUAGE 1

The course of Hispanic-American Language 1 belongs to the activities of the Bachelor's Degree in "Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences." The course consists of a theoretical module
(II semester) and in language practices (full year). The main purpose of the course is to develop and strengthen the language skills in Hispanic-American Language (American Spanish) as described by level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. In addition, the course aims to offer students useful tools for understanding and analysing the proposed texts and for the study of historical, identity and intercultural dynamics implicated in the linguistic Hipanic-American processes.

At the end of the course students will be able to:
- Know the Hispanic-American Language at the B1 level of the CEFR;
- Know the historical development of the Hispanic-American Language and acquire a critical view of it;
- Develop judgment skills in relation with the course contents;
- Develop skills in individual processing, classroom interaction and independent comprehension of texts.

There are no specific prerequisites required.

- The encounter and communication with the Other
- The interpreters
- The adaptation of Spanish language
- The role of evangelization
- National Independences and the problem of language
- Hispanic-American language policies today

Practices (full year):
Grammatical, phonetic-graphic, lexical, textual content and functional exponents of the Hispanic-American language (CEFR level B1).

The assessment will be through a written test (60 minutes) and an oral test.
The written test, consisting of multiple-choice and gap-filling exercises, aims to verify the achievement of the required language competence (B1).
Students who pass the written test will be required to take the oral test, which aims to verify the learning of the module content and the oral linguistic proficiency.
The final grade will be the average of the marks from both tests.

A student holding a DELE certification of the required level (B1) or higher, obtained no more than two years prior to the date of the exam, will be required to take only the oral test. The student is required to give the teacher a copy of the certificate before the exam. The grade obtained in the DELE certification (expressed in hundredths) will be converted into thirtieths, regardless of the level of the certification.

The written exam grade is determined as follows:
- knowledge of the grammatical contents delivered during the language practices (up to 18 points)
- knowledge of the lexical contents delivered during the language practices (up to 12 points)
The oral exam grade is determined as follows:
- knowledge of the contents delivered in class and through the assigned critical bibliography (up to 10 points)
- ability to interpret and elaborate the course contents (up to 10 points)
- oral proficiency in Spanish-American language (up to 10 points)
Honours will be awarded in the case of excellent results in both tests and in all the considered aspects.
