The objective of this course is to introduce students to fundamental questions and approaches in the design of international organizations. The course will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on what organizational design is, what are the main dimensions, decisions, organizational solutions at different levels of analysis and intervention.
The course provides students with research, knowledge, cases and models to understand the organization of a company in an international environment and the decisions that a manager must make in the process of corporate internationalization. The course will develop an in-depth analysis of organization design in international companies and stimulate critical discussion.
In particular, students:
- will learn what organizational design means, what are the main dimensions of organizational design based on the main theories of the organization
- will understand the key decisions of organizational design at different levels of analysis
- will learn analytical frameworks to manage the main challenges in the design of international organizations
- will acquire the basic knowledge related to the management of human resources in international contexts
Basic knowledge of business strategy and organization
The course is divided into the following contents:
- Introduction to organizations and the global market
- Fundamentals of structural design and strategies
- The influence of the external environment and open system design elements
- Internationalization strategies
- Managing dynamic processes
- Organizational Culture

The course material will also include slides used in class, case studies, journal articles, and book chapters, which will be made available on the course's Moodle page.
Assessment of learning will be based on a written exam consisting of:
- multiple-choice questions
- open-ended questions.

The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.

A written exam will be administrated to assess the knowledge and competencies learned during the course. The exam is evaluated on a 30 points basis, 18 points are the minimum level to receive the 6 credits for the course.

Regarding the final grade:
A. scores 18-22 age will be assigned if the student shows:
- sufficient knowledge and applied comprehension with reference to contents of the program;
- sufficient ability to interpret information, formulating independent judgments about organizational design problems and solutions;
- sufficient use of specific language of the organizational design.
B. scores 23-26 will be assigned if the student shows:
- fair knowledge and applied comprehension in reference to the program;
- fair ability to interpret information, formulating independent judgments about organizational design problems and solutions;
- fair use of specific language of the organizational design;
C. scores 27-30 range will be awarded if the student shows:
- very good knowledge and applied comprehension in reference to the program;
- very good ability to interpret information, formulating independent judgments about organizational design problems and solutions;
- fully appropriate use of specific language of the organizational design;
D. honours will be awarded in the presence of excellent knowledge, comprehension and judgement skills of the organization design solutions.
The teaching method involves the use of lectures, case studies, and testimonials.
