The course is offered to students who, as a result of the CISIA test, received an additional educational obligation (OFA) in mathematics. Specifically, the course is aimed at recovering the basic skills needed to take courses in "Matematica - 1" and "Matematica - 2". In addition to students who are required to take the OFA test, students who feel the need to refresh their basic knowledge in mathematics are also invited to attend.
1. Knowledge and understanding:
1.1. understand the terminology and methodology of mathematics;
1.2. understand the properties of powers and logarithms;
1.3. recognize the different types of functions;
1.4. understand solving techniques for equations and inequalities.

2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
2.1. understand a mathematics textbook;
2.2. formalize mathematical statements and problems;
2.2. identify the objective of a given problem;
2.3. perform the calculations necessary to solve a given problem.

3. Judgment Skills:
3.1. interpret simple mathematical models;
3.2. analyze problems formalized in mathematical terms.
No prerequisites are required.
- Terms and forms of mathematical language: logical connectives; implication; quantifiers; definition; axiom; theorem.
- Natural numbers and integers. Rational and real numbers. Properties of powers. Logarithms and their properties. Algebraic expressions and polynomials. Percentages.
- Elements and sets. Subsets and operations between sets.
- Functions. Compound and inverse functions. Real functions of real variable: monotone; periodic; even; odd. Graphing of a function. Transformations of graphs of functions. Linear, quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions.
- Equations and inequalities: rational; irrational; with absolute value; exponential; logarithmic.
- Systems of reference in the plane and in space. Distance in the plane. Straight line, circumference, ellipse, hyperbola and parabola.
- Main trigonometric formulas: sine and cosine.
- Battaia L. (2015) Basic Mathematics. http://www.batmath.it/matematica/mat_base/mbase.pdf

- Other teaching materials will be indicated by the lecturer during the course.
The written exam consists of 26 multiple choice questions. Specifically, for each question there are 5 possible answers of which only one is correct. For each correct answer you get 1 point, for each incorrect answer -0.25 points, for each answer not given 0 points.
The exam is considered sufficient with a score of 13 points or more.

Evaluation grid:
- 13–16 points: more or less sufficient knowledge of the topics covered in the course; minimal ability to perform logical reasoning or mathematical calculations, always in relation to the topics addressed in the course.
- 17–22 points: average knowledge of the topics covered in the course; average ability to perform logical reasoning or mathematical calculations, always in relation to the topics addressed in the course.
- 23–26 points: good to excellent knowledge of the topics covered in the course; good to excellent ability to perform logical reasoning or mathematical calculations, always in relation to the topics addressed in the course.

Teaching is divided into:
(a) lectures;
(b) tutorials;
(c) individual study.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend class actively, reading book chapters before coming to class and doing exercises similar to those covered in the classroom after class.
Teaching is coordinated with that of "Mathematics - 1" in order to optimize the recovery of basic mathematical skills.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Human capital, health, education" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
