KOREAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE MOD.1

Korean Language and Culture Mod. 1 (second language) is one of the core courses within the China and Japan curricula of the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa. The course belongs to the language skills learning area and aims to provide students with a solid foundation in Korean grammar and elementary Korean language skills (CEFR A1/A1+). The year-long course is divided into two modules taught over two semesters and provides the foundation for further study of the Korean language.

1. Knowledge and understanding
Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired knowledge and understanding of the main grammatical structures of elementary Korean (CEFR A1/A1+) and their use, providing a foundation for further study of the language.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
"identify the main grammatical categories and their properties;"
"understand and correctly use elementary Korean grammatical structures;"
"describe the grammatical constructions and phenomena covered in the course using appropriate basic linguistic terminology and fundamental tools of syntactic analysis."

The final examination consists of a written test (approximately 1 hour) comprising multiple-choice and open-ended questions covering the course contents.

The 12 ECTS credits associated with the course will be awarded upon successful completion of Mod. 1 and the final examination (Mod. 2). The final grade is calculated as the average of the grades obtained in the two examinations.
The grade obtained in Part I (Mod. 1) will remain valid until Part II (Mod. 2) is successfully completed, and no later than the first examination session in January of the following academic year.
Students who do not pass Part II (Mod. 2) by the first January examination session must retake Part I (Mod. 1). They may do so starting from the second January examination session.

The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.

Inferiore a 18/30: insufficiente.
Score range 18–22: Sufficient knowledge of basic Korean grammatical structures and vocabulary. Sufficient ability to understand and use simple expressions in basic communicative contexts.
Score range 23–26: Fair knowledge of basic Korean grammatical structures and vocabulary. Fair ability to understand and use simple expressions in basic communicative contexts.
Score range 27–30: Good or excellent knowledge of basic Korean grammatical structures and vocabulary. Good or excellent ability to understand and use simple expressions in basic communicative contexts.
With Honors (Lode): Outstanding knowledge of basic Korean grammatical structures and vocabulary. Outstanding ability to understand and use simple expressions in basic communicative contexts.

Lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations, grammar explanations, guided practice activities, and in-class consolidation exercises. Presentation slides and supplementary learning materials will be made available on the Moodle platform.
